1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Welcome to 1000 Books Before Kindergarten! This program is open to children ages 0-5, so don’t feel rushed! The program will last as long as you wish until your child enters kindergarten—whether you finish it in a few months or a few years. You and your child can go at your own pace. We want to offer some encouragement too--by reading just 3 stories a day, you and your child will have read over 1000 books in one year. And yes, you CAN repeat books! You will also have shared many special moments along the way and the rewards result in the adventure of a lifetime.

Each year, we will have a graduation ceremony in August for those children who have completed the program and reached their goal. Register your child today!

Here are the steps for participation: 

  1. Read together and write the titles on your Reading Sheet. If you read a book more than once, you can record it each time. Books read at Library Storytime, at daycare, or read by other family members to your child also count!
  2. When you finish 100 books, bring your sheet to the library and receive a prize for your completed page. Collect your next Reading Sheet
  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 and receive a prize and a new Reading Sheet at each level.
  4. Congratulations You Did It! After finishing 1000 books your child will receive a beautiful hard cover book, a graduation certificate and a special gift. Plus, they get an awesome jump start on success in school!
